Evidence and accountability

How this hub
uses evidence.

Who publishes the explanations?

AlgalBloom publishes the editorial synthesis. EPA, NOAA, Scripps and USGS are named as data providers or research references, not as the authors, reviewers or endorsers of this website. No independent scientist review is claimed.

What counts as a finding?

Measured values, arithmetic summaries and explanatory context are labeled separately. We do not create a universal danger score, infer toxins from pigments or infer local climate impacts from a background atmospheric record. Comparisons retain the same units and sampling method.

How are sources selected and refreshed?

The hub prioritizes publicly accessible primary agency datasets and named scientific publications. Each dataset keeps its own cadence, coverage, attribution and last-successful snapshot. An upstream failure retains old data with a visible failure state. EPA lake observations and NOAA atmospheric CO₂ are not merged into a shared risk index.

How are corrections handled?

Source revisions replace the working snapshot after validation. The update log records whether the EPA source changed. Editorial changes update the published revision date. Owners can trigger a source check through WordPress Tools → AlgalBloom Data.
